Execution & Technical Scope

Saudi Aramco has awarded the work to Larsen & Toubro (L&T) as main contractor, and L&T has in turn awarded the microtunneling crossing execution works to Trenchless Engineering Services Co. Ltd. The scope covers installation of two parallel 56-inch steel carrier pipelines, EWG 3 and EWG 4, running between Pump Station 8 and BGCS 10, crossing a total of five roads and comprising ten individual microtunneling drives, each ranging from 50 m to 60 m in length at a minimum cover depth of 4 m below the road surface. Installing the 56-inch steel carrier pipe in this rock ground condition is a significant challenge, as the geotechnical profile is predominantly high-strength basalt and granite rock; this is being addressed using AVN 1200 TB and RASA DH 1200 microtunnel boring machines fitted with rock-cutting heads, ensuring precise line and grade control while avoiding open-cut excavation and disruption to live road traffic, and supporting the safe and reliable operation of the expanded gas transmission network
